Seek first His Kingdom
Matthew 6 v 33 says, “Seek first His Kingdom…”
If we look at Luke 12 v 22-34 we find Jesus saying, “Seek first His Kingdom…” These two verses from Matthew and Luke are from the same moment of time, recorded differently by the different writers. The thing to notice in both accounts is the context, the setting in which these verses were written.
Both verses are surrounded by an admonition to put God first in all our needs. Jesus encourages not to worry about what we wear, what we eat, our needs basically because God our Father will meet them.
Quote: Provision in life follows those whose priorities are concerned with God’s ways, work and will.
But what are God’s ways, work and will, well in my book another way of saying that is… God’s Kingdom.
So seeking first His Kingdom means being:
- Being constant in prayer
- Steadfastly persistant
- Being determinded
- Striving hard
- Keeping at it
The last one is important to keep in mind because the phrase “Seek first His Kingdom” in Greek would be better written, “Seeking first His Kingdom, keep on seeking His Kingdom”. It is a present tense phrase. It means do it now and do it now and do it now…. Just keep doing it!
As a church let’s bear that in mind and start seeking His Kingdom and then to seek His Kingdom and then… well I think you get it!
