What is the Gospel
Gospel literally means ‘good news’. The Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ -That because God loves us so much, He sent His only ‘Son’ to become a man, Jesus Christ, who lived a perfect life, and showed us the way to life. He then was tortured and suffered the horrible death of crucifixion. But this was not a mistake or failure, it’s what Jesus said He had come to do, to die for our sin (that is, our selfishness and rebellion) and to take the punishment we all deserve. He died so that we can be forgiven by God, and be brought back into a loving relationship with Him.
Jesus said ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life, no-one comes to the Father (God) accept through me’.
We can experience this forgiveness and new personal relationship with God, by repenting (turning away from sin and the self centred way we have been living our lives) and putting our faith and trust in Jesus. If we ask Him, God will then fill us with His Holy Spirit who comes to live within us, to teach us, guide us, strengthen us, and give us all we need to live life to the full, loving others and serving God. We are changed from the inside out, born again of God’s Spirit, a new creation. We then have a certain hope for the future because God is in control, where before there was either despair or escapism.
This is the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ.
